(As requested by Dalekwho) The episode overall was great, not the best story ever but still good, I honestly can't think of any criticism about this episode, everything was good but it doesn't really stand out to me, I am not sure why but it isn't the kind of episode I would re-watch. I thought the Sea devils looked amazing and were incredibly well made, very good for the budget doctor who had at the time. I didn't really like how they were choreographed, I think that could have been better. The episode also has a very iconic doctor who scene and that is when the Sea devils rise from the water, it is especially creepy and I can imagine that scaring kids when it was first shown. The cover is superb and beautifully made, one of my favourite classic covers. It shows the third doctor, the master a Sea devil and Sea devils coming out of the water. The directing and effects were good but as I say the Sea devils could have been better choreographed. Overall a great episode but certainly not my favourite.

My new favourite classic episode. This episode was incredibly fun and witty and interesting. Filmed in Paris 'City of death' marked the first ever episode of doctor who to be filmed abroad, and even though they weren't there long they certainly got everything in, like the Eiffel tower and the Arc de triomphe and this is one of the reasons why it was successful. Another big thing in this episode is that part 4 of this serial received the most viewers out of any other doctor who episode, which is a massive achievement. The cover I think isn't very good for such a great episode, but at least it includes the Paris skyline. The plot is a perfect plot written by David Agnew who isn't a real person, just a pseudonym, the real writer was David Fisher. The jokes were great, the fourth doctor was in his element in this episode. The makeup on the Jagaroth were great. Overall a great episode and not a boring part in sight. Well this story is known as the greatest story in all of doctor who as voted by doctor who magazine readers (there is even a little sticker on the DVD saying this). For me personally this isn't my favourite story, I have lot's of favourites but this is not one. It's not that it is a bad story, I just that I have seen better episodes, I think that this episode is so popular because it shows how the Daleks (the most iconic monster in all of doctor who) originated. This story is a very important in the world of doctor who and it is also very interesting to find out where the Daleks came from. A big 'first' in the episode is it is the first time we meet Davros, a crazy scientist. And I thought Michael Wisher's portrayal as Davros was spectacular and quite disturbing. The acting was great in the episode (especially Lis Sladen when she falls from the scaffolding). The effects were great and the set's were perfect and had just the right amount of eerie. Lastly the DVD cover is brilliant it shows Davros and 3 Daleks on Skaro. Well what a great episode this is, a perfect story to end Jon Pertwee's first season as 'doctor who'. This story is sometimes regarded as the best classic doctor who story or at least the best Pertwee story. I wouldn't call it my best story of all classic who but I would call it the best Pertwee story. The first time I watched it I found it a bit confusing but that's to be expected with this story, a seven parter where 'operation Inferno' is ago but the doctor is worried especially when his TARDIS takes him to a parallel universe where 'operation Inferno' has destroyed the world. I think what was fun about it is we meet the people we know turn into people with completely opposite personalities from what they normally are. A very good twist in the story. The cover is very good I think, it shows the parallel Earth being engulfed in flames, the scientist who is turning into a mutant, the doctor and the Brigadier from the parallel Earth. The effects are absolutely fantastic here, the fire and everything looks great. The acting is superb. It must have been fun for the actors to act somebody else. Finally as most of you should know this episode was the last time we would see Liz Shaw, who in my opinion is a great companion, very witty and smart, also In the special features it said she left because she was so smart and the producers thought this was bad because the viewers wouldn't know what was going on and the fact Liz didn't get a proper send off in the episode was a bit annoying but that is my only fault. |
